Passing Through
I am so looking forward to my summer vacation! It has been a long school year, and I am in desperate need of some rest and relaxation. We generally take a weeklong vacation. As I was contemplating this topic of passing through, I was reminded of all the many summer vacations we took as a family. When we vacation, we try to enjoy all the amenities where we stay. We eat out a lot, sight see, go to amusement parks, shop, and do whatever else is fun for us to do. At the end of the week, we pack up and go home. We weren’t there to stay permanently; we were just passing through.
Our life here on earth is short, like a vacation. Earth is not our permanent home; we are just passing through. We are told that we are aliens and strangers in this world. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, and God has a lot of good work for us to do while we are here on this earth. Just as we enjoy ourselves on vacation, we can enjoy the beauty of God’s creation and the good that life has to offer. We can do this as long as we don’t lose sight of our real purpose for being here. Don’t get too comfortable here; we are just passing through. Our citizenship is in heaven and we should live in great anticipation of going to our permanent home. How are you living as if this world is your permanent home? What can you do to regain your focus on your true purpose in preparation for your glorious home?
I’ve learned that God wants us to enjoy our time here, as we serve Him in preparation for our eternal home.
